The towns of Fairford and Lechlade are situated in beautiful countryside, each having their own individual attractions.  Many visitors come to the towns to enjoy the river walks – the Coln in Fairford and the Thames in Lechlade and each town has the advantage of having a beautiful church – St Mary’s in Fairford with its complete set of mediaeval stained glass windows and St Lawrence’s in Lechlade, built entirely in the early Perpendicular style.

A lot of the surrounding countryside has remained unspoilt for over 400 years as it is owned and protected by the Ernest Cook Trust.  The history of these ancient wool towns can be seen everywhere with the remains of mediaeval burgage with narrow houses and alleyways, but they have been brought into the modern day with a selection of quaint shops, cafés and numerous eating places.

Both towns have prospered because of their flourishing community spirit.  Annual events in Fairford include the Fairford Festival, Fairford Steam Rally and the Royal International Air Tattoo.  Whilst in Lechlade, there is the Flag Festival and Regatta plus a bustling Christmas Market in both towns at the beginning of December.
