Hello, virtually. I’m a new member of the Club who literally joined just days before lockdown!
For those who don’t know me, I’ve been a journalist for over 30 years and have run my own media consultancy for 13 years. I live in Swindon but work with businesses in London, Wiltshire, the Midlands and South Wales. I’ve worked with four Dragons’ Den entrepreneurs (two currently), winners of The Apprentice, two celebrities and many other extraordinary business people.
In my full-time media career, I was the business editor of the Swindon Advertiser, a producer director with ITV West and then series producer. As a freelancer, I’ve worked on The One Show, contributed to programmes as an investigative journalist to Dispatches and sourced stories for Comic Relief campaigns twice. I was also a guest director on the day-time show Flog It! for six years. I’ve worked on multiple award-winning programmes.
During lockdown, I’m providing some content for an online news service called Total Guide to…Swindon/Bristol/Bath and I get to decide what stories I tell weekly for those audiences. I’m also a feature writer for The Business Exchange Swindon & Wiltshire/Bath & Somerset. Again, I get to choose, with the editor, which stories I write.
In my other life, I help business owners and experts raise their profile, often through the media. In this time of lockdown, I’m offering to do one hour story planning sessions virtually at £49 plus VAT for non-clients (payable in advance) and I also have an online PR course which normally retails at £147, now at £49 (including VAT). This course is suitable for start-ups, business owners who’ve never embraced PR and want to know more by making a small investment and also marketing managers who want to up-skill.
I can also offer basic editing of video material e.g. video tips for social media use (entry level) at £25 plus VAT per hour of editing. I will be running low-cost online webinars during this period to offer advice and story tips – the cost will be £10 plus VAT for half hour sessions and £20 plus VAT for one hour sessions. For these to be viable, at least 20 people have to sign up.
I’m making these offers to help people market themselves and their businesses at a time when many of us are restricted to four walls to save lives. Being visible and using digital communication is, in my view, key to survival at this time and, those who embrace it, will have a much better chance of thriving later. I do, however, ask businesses that are booming at this time to pay me my normal rates.
Feel free to connect with me on Facebook (PRWiltshire), LinkedIN (Fiona Scott) or Twitter (@thefionascott) and I’m happy to answer simple questions online. During this time, I’ve created a Facebook group called SMEs vs Coronavirus to provide business-led advice and support – a group of six business owners admin the group. Feel free to join and contribute as you see fit.
