Dave Tiney, Club Captain of Wrag Barn Golf Club in Highworth unexpectedly found himself being recognised as one of Asthma UK’s fundraising champions after raising an impressive £9,000 with the support of his fellow golfers at the Club.
Dave and Club President, Mike Bowes, handed over the cheque to Phil Jefferies, who works as a volunteer reviewer for the charity when they receive grant applications.
Both Dave and Phil are agreed on the need for asthma sufferers to be more active and, taking up a sport such as golf will provide great health benefits. Phil, who has previously been hospitalised due to an asthma attack has now completed three London Marathon’s on behalf of Asthma UK and is lined up for his fourth in April this year.
There has been an increase in emergency admissions to hospital in Wiltshire due to asthma. Between 2013 and 2016, these have doubled from 336 to 765.
