The Fairford & Lechlade Business Club AGM 2019 was held at the end of April at Coleshill in the National Trust’s brand new function room and café, and included a tour of the model farm with its old buildings, machinery and tools. Dating back to the Domesday Book, the manor of Coleshill has witnessed a vibrant snapshot of English history and records show that there has been a mill at Coleshill dating back to 1086. The estate also houses Winston Churchill’s secret network of underground bunkers as part of the undercover resistance work in WW2.
After the tour, around 30 Business Club members were reminded what the Club had been doing over the past year and heard from Ian Sumbler of Morris Owen about the Club’s healthy financial situation. First established in 2006 and now with over 100 members from Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire, an increased Steering Group was elected to perform the month-to-month running of the Club. Helen Webb was re-elected unopposed as Chair for a fourth term, while Shirley Wheeler as Vice Chair and Chris Roberts as Administrator were both also re-elected unopposed. Other elected members of the Steering Group are Amelia Bishop, Andy Briggs, Andrew Garland, Simon Hersom, Zena Kennedy, Ian Lindsay and Verity Manners. Click on Steering Group to find out how to contact any of the Steering Group members.
As the Fairford & Lechlade Business Club has such a healthy bank balance, it was agreed at the AGM that the Business Club would use some of its assets for the benefit of the local community and the Business Club’s own membership. Over the next financial year, a local charity in Fairford, Lechlade or one of the surrounding villages will be chosen to receive a cash donation from the Business Club, whilst members will enjoy free training on subjects such as social media, marketing, branding, growth strategies or any other area useful to local businesses.
The very pleasant evening was topped off with a fish and chip supper provided by The Cotswold Chippy (New Business of the Year 2018) and lots of useful networking.
Fairford & Lechlade Business Club prides itself on being a forward-thinking Business Club leading the way in helping local businesses of any size.
